OMP in Hong Kong

OMP was introduced to Hong Kong in 1995 as a joint effort of The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and the Education Department (now Education Bureau). With the very enthusiastic support of schools and youth centres, what started out as a small-scale creativity event with just four secondary schools has grown into a territory-wide annual educational programme. Since 2008 there has been generous sponsorship from The Quality Education Fund to sustain its development.

In March or April every year, the Hong Kong Odyssey of the Mind Secretariat organizes local competitions for primary and secondary school students. The World Finals are held in the United States every year and winning teams may be sent to represent Hong Kong and compete with the top finishers from approximately 20 other countries. The results achieved by Hong Kong teams at the World Finals always placed in high ranking in recent years. In 2010, one team crowned World Championship in the classical problem 《 Discovered Treasures 》 Division II competitions. One team was Second in its division in 2008. In 2007, two teams were Third in their respective divisions whereas in 2005, one of the teams won the highest honour, the Ranatra Fusca Creativity Award.
